Athi

I waited on the front porch of Karin’s house, a classic Cape Cod style from New England, painted in light yellow with a personal touch of Asian décor. When the storm door opened the beautiful sister Kira is the one who answered the door. I staggered before such beauty, and took a moment to clear my throat and asked for my girlfriend Karin.

“Sorry but she is not home at the moment. Athi right? She went out with Kenji to deal with unfinished business from the funeral. Do you want to wait for her?” Kira looked at me devouring me with her eyes.

“I’ll wait out here, there is an important message I need to tell her about and it cannot wait.”

“Do you mind if I wait with you?” She sat next to me on the porch, too close I’ll say for being the sister-in-law. After a moment that felt too long for me in the company of this aggravating imp, Kira added,

“What is so important, I can call my brother if you can’t wait any longer.” Kira was playing with her cell phone in hand. The brat, why did she waited so long?

“Yes thank you.” Ok this girl is pretty but too obvious. She called her brother explaining the importance of my visit, and then looking at me she asked,

“What’s the rush asked my brother.”

“I am returning to my country tomorrow, I came to say good bye.” Kira looked sad and confused, she retold my response.

“They’re on their way. Athi before you go there is something that I must say. Hum… I don’t know how to say this but if I don’t I would not be able to live with myself.”

“What is wrong?” Now I am the most puzzled.

“Athi I think that I am in love with you. I need to confess before this feeling starts to corrode my insights. I know you love my sister it’s just that I need to tell the truth. Before the accident, I used to be introverted and quiet. Always hiding my feelings and my thoughts for fear of being teased or bullied by others. But now it is different, the accident has given me a second chance to mend things in my life, a second chance to enjoy life the way it should be. Since the first time I set my eyes on you, I realized that I have a purpose to live for and I want to fight for your affection. Athi please, don’t say anything I only want you to consider my confession.”

“That is your problem Kira. You should never have set your eyes on me to begin with. Your purpose is futile, and if you so stubbornly decide to pursue your affection for me. I’ll have to say that your life will become a waste of time.”

Kira was quivering I didn’t know what to say after, I was perplexed by this declaration of love. Now, I am in trouble, I came here to say good-bye to the love of my existence because I am a monster in disguise and I need to let her go.
